Students enrolled in the program are required to complete 24 credits of coursework. The specific course titles will be listed in the course schedule for each semester.
Students are required to complete the National Tsing Hua University Academic Research Ethics Education Course by the end of their first year of enrollment. This course is mandatory and carries no credit.
Internships
Division of Teaching Advanced Chinese as a second Language : Prior to graduation, students are required to complete at least 100 hours of Chinese classroom teaching practice and serve as language partners and assistant teachers for students in the International Sinology group.
Division of International Sinology : Prior to graduation, students are required to complete a minimum of 100 hours of Chinese-language internship in a relevant professional field.
Language Proficiency
Division of Teaching Advanced Chinese as a second Language :
Students are required to successfully complete the Ministry of Education's Certification Examination for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, specifically in "Chinese Oral Proficiency and Expression," prior to graduation.
Division of International Sinology :
Advanced Mandarin study in Taiwan in the first year is required. CEFR B2 is expected at the beginning of the second year.
Before graduation, students are required to attain a Foreign Language Proficiency level of ACTFL superior or CEFR C1 and above.
Master's students who have completed 18 credits are eligible to apply for a thesis proposal review. The thesis proposal should be written in Chinese. The final thesis may be written in either Chinese or English. However, if it is written in English, it should also include at least 10 pages in Chinese.
An interval of three months is required between approval of thesis proposal and the official degree examination.
Two groups of students are required to participate in at least one seminar and orally present a thesis or publish a paper in an academic journal before the degree examination.
The students are required to prepare a Turnitin report prior to the degree examination. The paper's similarity score should not exceed 30%, based on the principle of academic integrity. If the similarity score is higher than 30% due to extenuating circumstances, the student must provide a written explanation for the examination committee's consideration.
Student who has completed the required master's degree curriculum and credits, submitted the thesis, and passed the review by the master's examination committee shall be awarded the master's degree by the university in which the student is registered.
